Vision Independence Institute (VII), formerly St Dunstan’s Association for South African War-Blinded Veterans, work include Orientation and Mobility services and subsidies, bursaries and educational support, and ongoing assistance to qualifying war-blinded veterans and beneficiaries.


Purpose of the Role


Vision Independence Institute is seeking an experienced, empathetic and hands-on Marketing Manager to strengthen our public profile and lead the implementation of our new brand. Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will manage VII’s marketing, communications, public relations and events; oversee accessible digital and printed content; and help build meaningful engagement with beneficiaries, partners, donors and the wider public.


• Develop and implement VII’s annual marketing, communications and events plan. 

• Lead implementation and consistent use of the new VII brand. 

• Manage VII’s website, social media, newsletters and digital content. 

• Produce accessible written, visual and event-related communications. 

• Coordinate public events, awareness campaigns and stakeholder engagements. 

• Manage media relations, press releases and organisational announcements. 

• Support donor, partner and stakeholder communications. 

• Supervise or coordinate the marketing administrator, volunteers and external suppliers. 

• Manage allocated budgets, timelines and campaign calendars. 

• Track and report on reach, engagement, referrals, event performance and other agreed outcomes. 

• Work with programme staff to communicate VII’s O&M, bursary and veteran-support work accurately and respectfully.

Essential Experience and Skills 


• Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.

• 3–5 years of relevant experience in marketing, branding, events, or public relations. 

• Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, execute, and deliver events and campaigns. 

• Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills.

• Familiarity with social media management and digital marketing tools. 

• Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail, including budget and timeline management.  

• A valid driver's licence.

• Demonstrated understanding of disability inclusion, accessibility and inclusive communication.

• Strongly preferred: Experience working with blind or visually impaired people, or within the broader disability sector.
