The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children (SBCWC), a first-of-its-kind one-stop support shelter, are providing essential, cost-free services to abused women and children in Cape Town.

Background

The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children (SBCWC) provides essential, cost-free services 365 days a year to abused women and children, employing a comprehensive multi-disciplinary service model including psychosocial support, emergency shelter, legal advice, and empowerment programmes for the effective treatment and prevention of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

Purpose of the Role

SBCWC is seeking to appoint a Director, a purpose-driven, strategic leader who will guide the organisation into its next phase of impact, sustainability, and growth. This is not only an operational leadership role; it is an opportunity to shape the future of survivor-centred care, influence policy and systemic responses to GBVF, and strengthen SBCWC’s position as a leading voice and model in the sector.

Experience and Qualifications

• Minimum of 7-10 years senior leadership experience in the NGO / social justice sector.

• Tertiary qualification in Law, Gender Studies or relevant field (postgraduate qualification advantageous; RPL - Recognition of Prior Learning considered).

• Proven track record in fundraising, donor engagement and resource mobilisation.

• Strong experience in strategic communications and stakeholder management.

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex organisations and multidisciplinary teams.

• Solid understanding of GBVF within the South African context.

• Experience in HR leadership, organisational development and policy implementation.

• Valid driver’s licence, own transport and police clearance certificate.
