The Cape Town Carnival is a non-profit organisation (NPO) with a clear mission: to ignite joy and unity through creativity. Since 2010, this vibrant event has used the power of performance art to bring people from all walks of life together. Every March, the city streets transform into a massive celebration for 50,000 spectators, but the NPO teams’ work happens all year round.
The heart of the mission is about more than just a parade; it is about creating jobs, developing skills, celebrating diversity, and giving local communities a chance to be seen and heard. Through months of workshops and rehearsals, the Carnival helps artists grow their talents and build strong networks. By sustaining local arts and culture, this NPO ensures that South Africa’s rich stories and creative voices continue to shine on a world-class stage.
Purpose of the Role:
Cape Town Carnival are looking for a dynamic and high-impact Sponsorship Officer to manage their annual revenue portfolio. This role is pivotal in ensuring the financial sustainability of their spectacular annual events in March each year. This is not a "start-from-scratch" sales role; it is a strategic management and growth position building sustainability through retention & stewardship, strategic growth and upselling, new business development and alternative revenue streams.

The candidate must possess the personal impact and presentation skills necessary to negotiate with high-level corporate and government stakeholders. A solutions-focused mindset and the ability to work under pressure are essential, as is the capacity to collaborate across internal teams. The candidate must be highly networked within the South African corporate and events landscape and demonstrate a commitment to ethical fundraising standards.
Requirements:
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience in sponsorship sales or fundraising.
• A relevant qualification in Business, Marketing, or a related field is advantageous.
• Documented track record of meeting and exceeding significant sales targets.
• Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising and income growth strategies.
• Expertise in proposal and grant writing, including the ability to demonstrate Return on Investment to partners.
• Experience in donor relationship management, retention, and CRM database systems.
• Competency in financial reporting, budget allocation, and contract negotiation.
• Proficiency in digital marketing, social media, and formal presentation tools.
• A valid driver’s licence and own transport are essential.
• A solid understanding of the Cape Town events landscape and relevant regulations.
