Title: Resource Development Officer

Type: 12-month Contract, Annually Renewable

Location: On-site, Johannesburg (with home working 1 day per week)

Salary: R420,000 per annum CTC (negotiable)

Founded in 1979, The Legal Resources Centre (LRC) are a dynamic and impactful non-governmental public interest law firm who have been at the forefront of advancing human rights and constitutionalism in South Africa; by working with civil society partners, and on behalf of individuals and communities, they provide free legal services to vulnerable groups. Additionally, they have employed strategic litigation to advance gender equality, environmental justice, and access to healthcare. These legal breakthroughs had far-reaching benefits for millions of South Africans.


The Resource Development Officer will play a crucial role in strengthening the financial position of the LRC by securing funding for its programmes.  This involves cultivating and nurturing relationships with new and existing domestic and international institutional donors, including foundations, trusts, and government organisations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the entire donor funding lifecycle, from prospecting to stewardship.


Key to your success in this role is a sincere commitment to social change, love of research and the ability to identify opportunities and importantly, the ability to pursue leads and develop funding relationships is key.


The ideal candidate for this role will possess the following skillsets:


• A proactive fundraiser who is skilled at identifying, researching, and engaging high-potential funding prospects, as well as building strong relationships that open doors to new opportunities.

• A proven track record of securing funding or business in line with ambitious revenue targets - candidates must be able to demonstrate how their efforts contributed to meeting targets comparable to the LRC’s current R50 million target.

• 3 – 5 years of relevant fundraising experience or a background in sales/marketing with transferrable skills.

• Experienced in managing the full funding application process, from opportunity alignment to developing and submitting high-quality concept notes, proposals, and budgets in collaboration with internal teams.

• Proficient in coordinating donor reporting and overseeing grant closeout processes, ensuring compliance, timely submissions, and audit readiness.

• Holds a relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Sales & Marketing, Communication, BCom).

• A demonstrated commitment to social justice and systemic change.
