
Title: FILLED: Finance & Admin Officer
Type: Full-Time, Annual Renewable Contract (Subject to Funding)
Location: Anywhere in South Africa, Fully Remote
Salary: R430,000 per annum CTC

For over 25 years, African Journals Online (AJOL) has been increasing global access to research published in African journals with millions of African research articles downloaded from AJOL’s platform each month. As a Non-Profit Organisation (since 1998), AJOL supports and encourages Open Access and fee-free publication models, and provides access to a wide range of free resources to assist African researchers, authors, editors and journals.
To increase their global and continental impact they’re seeking a trustworthy and versatile Finance & Admin officer with a minimum of 5 years Bookkeeping and Administrative experience. Someone with technical expertise and Superior knowledge of accounting and payroll software.
As the Finance & Admin Officer, you will ensure that financial transactions are recorded fully, timeously and meticulously with scrupulous accuracy and that internationally acceptable book-keeping best practice is adhered to.
AJOL is looking for someone who can balance finance with providing both depth and breadth in administrative operational support.

• Internal and external financial reporting, and Auditor interactions
• An organisational powerhouse, who can effectively manage time, plan, prioritise, meet deadlines, and problem-solve.
The ideal candidate for this role will possess the following skillsets:
• Proven work experience as an Administrative/Clerical Assistant, Bookkeeper or similar role. (Minimum 5 years).
• BComm Bookkeeping/Accounting / Finance/Audit, Post Grad in Accounting / Bookkeeping Diploma/Certificate in Accounting, BA Business Admin.
• Superior knowledge of Accounting and Payroll software (ideally Sage or similar)
• Experience in the Non-Profit sector is ideal, but not required.
• Excellent computer literacy, strong, foundational knowledge of systems like Slack, Free Office Software (Libre Office) and Google Workspace.
• Exceptional English written and verbal skills.
• An independent work capacity and the ability to work productively without supervision.
• Ability to learn new skills and assimilate new concepts quickly within a rapidly changing environment.
