The Children’s Hospital Trust is an independent non-profit organisation established in 1994. The Trust relies on the benevolence of donors to realise its aims and objectives. 100% of all donations go directly to prioritised paediatric healthcare needs and not a single cent is spent on administration costs.
Working in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Health, UCT Department of Paediatrics and Child Health and the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital (RCWMCH), the Trust has invested over R1 billion since 1994 towards improving public health infrastructure, training specialist paediatric health workers, and supporting the establishment of child public health projects.
The Copywriter will develop and execute emotive and impactful content strategies that align with the Children’s Hospital Trust's vision, mission and values: Integrity, Accountability, Kindness, Dynamism and Collaboration in every aspect of their work.
This role will be critical in the strategic effectiveness and quality of targeted content shared with various donor segments on all media platforms. Reporting to the Head of Donor Relations, you will craft content that aims to retain existing donors and educate, inspire, and acquire new donors.
As a Copywriter, you will be working alongside the Donor Relations team, as well as medical staff, patients and other providers, so you’ll be mostly based at the Hospital in Rondebosch.
A typical part of the job would proactively be researching and interviewing patients and colleagues to plan new pieces of communication, working with your line manager, briefing the designer, and ultimately taking the final copy to print. This work often takes days, and the copywriter could be working on multiple content pieces at a time. The key is to be proactive and employ strong project management skills.
Working for the Trust is a phenomenal experience, especially if you are a person connected or passionate about their cause. They’re comprised of remarkable teams of experts in their fields, who largely carry out their duties without supervision. The Copywriter’s peers would be the three fundraisers ( Individual, Legacy and Corporate portfolio managers) and a social media manager. The team works in an open plan office and believe in communication and collaboration.
The ideal candidate for this role will have a relevant degree, and a minimum of three years professional experience of producing writing that achieves outcomes aligned with purpose. This could be in fundraising, social marketing or in a healthcare environment. You will have excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, be able to write clear and compelling copy and be confident working across multiple projects with deadlines. Canva and Adobe skills would be very useful too.
